I am writing to ask you to publicly support an enduring ceasefire across the Middle East.

New Zealand has already spoken on parts of this conflict. You have called for ceasefire, demanded compliance with international humanitarian law, and confirmed Aotearoa New Zealand would enforce ICC arrest warrants.

I am asking you to go further. Say these things together, say them louder, and follow through consistently in every diplomatic forum where Aotearoa New Zealand has a seat.

Over 5,000 people have been killed across the region in the last two months. A US strike on a school in Iran killed 120 children. Israel carried out 100 air strikes in 10 minutes in Lebanon, killing over 350 civilians. In Gaza, Amnesty International has concluded that Israel's actions constitute genocide.

The temporary ceasefires in place are fragile and have already been breached. Civilians need an enduring ceasefire that protects lives and opens the door to accountability.

Aotearoa New Zealand has a proud history of speaking up when it matters. I am asking you to use that voice now.
