Dear HD Hyundai Leadership,

I am writing to express my utmost concern over the continued supply of HD Hyundai machinery to Israel, which are used in the demolition of Palestinian homes and infrastructure in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).

Amnesty International Korea’s recent extended press release, produced in collaboration with the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem, confirms that HD Hyundai machinery has been used in 59 demolitions of Palestinian-owned structures between 2019 and 2025. The use of Hyundai machinery to carry out these demolitions was verified through visual evidence and satellite imagery, which corroborated the victims’ testimonies. In the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, most of these demolitions were carried out under the pretext of lacking a building permit – tightly restricted for Palestinians under Israel’s discriminatory planning system - resulting in the forced displacement of hundreds of Palestinians and the destruction of critical civilian infrastructure, damaging the livelihood of Palestinians. In many cases, Palestinians were denied any meaningful due process to legally challenge the demolition orders.  Furthermore, your machinery was identified in demolitions in Rafah, south of Gaza Strip, during Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

These demolitions are part of Israel’s system of apartheid, as also recognized by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the OPT. According to its 2024 advisory opinion, the International Court of Justice said that Israel’s discriminatory planning and construction policies in the OPT, which pave the way for such demolitions, constitute unlawful discrimination and violate multiple international treaties, including the United Nation’s ICCPR, ICESCR, and CERD.

Despite being put on notice as early as March 2023, HD Hyundai has not taken the necessary steps to prevent the use of its machinery in human rights abuses, as required under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

We urge you to immediately suspend the distribution and servicing of all HD Hyundai machinery in Israel until it can be clearly established that your products are not being used in human rights violations. We also call on you to implement contractual provisions that allow for the termination of distribution, maintenance, and post-sale services when machinery is used in high-risk areas for human rights abuses.

Failure to take action would stand in stark contrast to Hyundai's responsibility to respect human rights.

While Palestinians face unspeakable human rights violations under Israel’s system of apartheid and its unlawful occupation, and Palestinians in Gaza specifically continue to face Israel’s genocide, we urge you to take a stand against the use of your machinery in Israel’s unlawful demolitions in the OPT.
